Files
Nail files are tools for shortening, shaping, and working on natural and artificial nails. Depending on the grit, they are suitable for different work steps: coarse files work on gel and acrylic models, while finer grits are used for finishing or gently working on natural nails. Buffers mattify and smooth the nail surface, while polishing files ensure a smooth finish. Nail files are available in straight, curved, trapezoidal, and interchangeable versions.
FAQ
Different grit levels are suitable for gel nails depending on the step in the process. A 100/180 nail file is particularly versatile: the coarser side is suitable for working on the modelage, while the finer side can be used for minor corrections. Very coarse grit levels such as 80/80 are intended for removing harder modelage materials and are not suitable for natural nails.
The numbers indicate the grit of the file. As a general rule: the lower the number, the coarser the file. A 100/180 grit file has two sides of different coarseness and can therefore be used for various steps in nail modeling.
Natural nails should be treated with a finer grit. emmi®NAIL, for example, recommends 240/240 for gentle work during manicures and pedicures. Very coarse files, such as 80/80 or 100/100, are unsuitable for natural nails.
A nail file is primarily used for shortening, shaping, and working on nails and modeling material. A buffer has a finer abrasive effect and is used, among other things, for matting and smoothing the nail surface. Buffer files can also even out irregularities within a modeling application.
For studios, professional files in various grits as well as hygienic replaceable file systems are particularly interesting. emmi®NAIL offers replaceable files with reusable stainless steel handles and interchangeable abrasive sheets. In addition, files and buffers are available in bulk packs for regular studio use.
